On Wednesday (Jul 24), FeedMe Malaysia reported the speculation that Genting Highlands outdoor theme park would be opening sooner than expected in early 2020 due to the fact that the company is currently hiring aggressively for the park.
Looks like the speculation may just be true as Genting Malaysia Berhad had revealed late yesterday (Jul 25) that the upcoming amusement park will feature some 21st Century Fox intellectual property, FMT reported.
The announcement came after Genting Malaysia had reached a settlement with Fox and Walt Disney, allowing the theme park to use both Fox and non-Fox intellectual property.
Genting Malaysia previously sued both of the Hollywood companies for US$1 billion (or RM4.12 billion) after the latter announced to pull out from the contracted project. Disney claimed that they do not want to be associated with Genting’s gambling business to protect their “family-friendly” image.
According to The Edge, all parties in the dispute have now agreed to dismiss all claims and counterclaims in the pending legal action in the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
It is speculated by Maybank Investment Bank unit, Maybank Kim Eng, that the outdoor theme park will open early next year after it was closed down in 2013. It was formerly predicted that the theme park would only open in 2021.
Based on an IMDb list, animated film characters that are fully owned by the 21st Century Fox include The Simpsons, Ice Age, Alvin and The Chipmunks and many more.
Meanwhile, Variety reported famous properties owned by 21st Century Fox include characters from Alien, Avatar, Planet of the Apes, Die Hard, Home Alone and among others.
It is unknown if Marvel characters that such as X-Men and Deadpool will be featured in the Genting Highlands theme park.
Hopefully, we get to see The Simpsons and Ice Age characters in the theme park.
