Met Gala, known as the Oscar of fashion or the biggest fashion’s night out, is an event that gets the whole world watching on every first Monday of May. The annual event in New York City raises fund for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute and to attend the dinner night is strictly by invitation only.
Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour hand picks every guest for the past 24 years (except 1996 and 1998) and it goes without saying that only the biggest stars of the year would be invited to the 71-year-and-running glorious event.
This year, we have a Malaysian attending Met Gala and it is none other than our Sarawak-born actor Henry Golding. E! News covered Golding’s appearance and reported that our ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ lead dressed in a glittering, custom, blue and purple ombré suit by Versace.
A closer look on his suit found that the glittering radiated out of the star came from tiny Swarovski crystals. His look at the “Camp: Notes on Fashion” Gala night was definitely one of the best in the male category.
The Iban heartthrob wrote on his Instagram, “Met Gala cherry officially popped! Thankyou @donatella_versace for dressing me in this stunning purple and blue ombrè, sequined suit @versace #metgala2019”
Golding is possibly the second Malaysian to have ever attended Met Gala, after Michelle Yeoh who had attended in 2015, which its theme was “China: Through the Looking Glass”.
When Met Gala is put side by side with Malaysia, the next thing that pops into your mind should be Jimmy Choo.
Many celebrities have worn our Penang-born shoe designer’s heels yesterday (or this morning, Malaysian time), namely Kate Moss, Danai Gurira and Gwyneth Paltrow (Avengers: Endgame’s actresses), Charlie XCX, Madelaine Petsch, and many more.
Joining Golding that night was also his ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ castmates Constance Wu, Gemma Chan (also an actress in MCU) and Awkwafina.
In an interview with Vogue, Liza Koshy asked Awkwafina if she would pull a heist that night just as she and her castmates did in ‘Ocean 8’, starring Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, Rihanna and many more. To which she replied no and hoped that the night would go smoothly with no complicated heist.
The most shocking fashion of the night would definitely go to Ezra Miller and Jared Letto, where one seemed to be a walking photoshopped face while another with a copy-pasted head. You will know what we mean when you see it:
The two play as the Flash and the Joker respectively in DC comics movies.
