Jho Low Kept Up with Kardashian By Giving Kim a RM1.3 Million Ferrari as Wedding Gift

Elva Hsiao, Paris Hilton, Miranda Kerr and now Kim Kardashian, one that even former President of the United States Barack Obama expressed disapproval on her influence, is one of Jho Low’s celebrity “flings”? Oh boy, that man is really “riching” (reaching) for the stars.

According to Page Six, which local media such as The EdgeThe Star and FMT based their reports on, 1MDB-link businessperson Low Taek Jho allegedly bought Kim K and her ex-husband Kris Humphries a US$325,000 (RM1.35mil) Ferrari in 2011 as their wedding gift.

Also known for his flamboyance, Jho Low gifted the white Ferrari to the couple but it’s reported that Kim was the sole owner of the luxury car that she used “extensively.” Now married to rapper and music producer Kanye West, she was spotted arriving at a dinner in Miami in the car last month.

When her marriage with Khris, a basketball player, collapsed, the couple fought over the sports car but Kim’s publicist and her divorce lawyer wouldn’t say if she was still driving the car. An exclusive report by Radar Onlineback in April 2012 covered the dispute as Khris wanted to know what was Kim doing with the car that was “jointly” given to the couple.

The entertainment site could only reveal “a very wealthy Malaysian businessman” was the gifter who did attend their wedding in the summer of 2011. The couple divorced 72 days after the wedding and many guests were upset that the gifts weren’t returned. The $10 million wedding was turned into a two-episode in Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

The report by Page Six yesterday (Sept 13) revealed the benefactor was Low and Kim might have to forfeit the car as it’s bought with stolen money from Malaysia. The US Department of Justice (DOJ) had previously gone after celebrities who received gifts from Low, such as Picasso and Basquiat paintings given to Leo DiCaprio and $8 million in diamond jewellery given to Miranda Kerr.

Bradley Hope, the co-author of Billion Dollar Whale, a book that details the uncovering of 1MDB scandals, told Page Six that Low was known for giving casino chips to his celebrity friends. “At a Las Vegas casino, he once gave Paris Hilton $250,000 in chips,” said the author who is also a journalist of Wall Streets Journal. Other celebrities such as Swizz Beatz, Pras Michél and Nicole Scherzinger had also received gifts of lesser value from Low.
