Imagine getting paid RM93 for 6 months worth of work? That is the prison for you.
Today (Jul 5), a jobless man was sentenced to six months in jail for stealing RM93 from a mosque, Berita Harian reported.
According to the charge sheet, accused Mohd Nor Azizi Mohd Nasir, 24, was spotted by two devoters during the act which led them to pin the thief down on the night of July 1, Monday.
The offence was committed at 8.30pm that day at Jamek Mosque, Medan Klebang Restu in Chemor, Perak.
Mohd Nor Azizi looted money from the mosque’s donation box. He was later handed to the police.
Utusan Online reported that the police found a stash of RM1 notes in his pocket.
Mohd Nor Azizi pleaded guilty to Magistrate Umzarul An-Nur Umar. He was sentenced under Section 380 of the Penal Code.
The provision carries a maximum jail term up to 10 years in addition to a fine. If committed the second time, the accused shall be punished with imprisonment and shall also be liable to a fine or whipping.
Earlier this year, a man suffered a severer sentence for stealing a smaller amount of money in a Terengganu mosque.
Mohd Hafiz Ibrahim, 27, was sentenced to nine months in jail for stealing RM50 from a donation box in Masjid Lama Kampung Sungai Rengas, Kuala Terengganu, NST reported.
The fact sheet of the case stated that the man was behaving suspiciously on Jan 10, which prompted the mosque’s committee members to view the CCTV footage.
The footage saw Mohd Hafiz rode to the mosque in a Yamaha 125z motorcycle and stole money out of the donation box located at the entrance of the mosque.
He was later arrested on Jan 18, in front of a petrol station at Durian Burung, eight days after the offence.
It is a bad idea to steal from a place of worship!
