A body was found lying face down beside a Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) distributor box at an industrial area at Tanjung Langsat along Jalan Teruntum 1, Pasir Gudang, Johor Bahru, Utusan Online reported.
Seri Alam OCPD Supt Ismail Dollah said primitive investigation suggested that the 33-year-old man tried to steal electric cables from the box before failing and electrocuted to death.
The police received a stressed call from the public at 9pm yesterday (Aug 7).
“The victim was lying face down and motionless in a hole near the box when we arrived at the scene.
“We were able to get his body out at about 12.45am, as electrical supplies were temporarily cut off,” Supt Ismail was quoted as saying by The Star.
With the help of the Pasir Gudang Fire and Rescue Department and a team from TNB Johor Bahru, the victim’s body was successfully retrieved out of the scene at 12.45am after stopping the electricity.
Supt Ismail said the victim was sent to the Sultan Ismail Hospital for a postmortem and further investigations will be carried out.
As of now, the case is classified as sudden death.
That is so sad… losing a life for some electric cables.
