A traffic policeman opened fire on a motorcycle because they beat the red light… what?!
A 21-year-old man was allegedly shot by a traffic cop when his friend ran a red light at Alor Star, Kedah yesterday (Jun 19), NST reported.
Victim Mohd Alif Anuar was sitting at the back of a motorcycle, ridden by his 22-year-old friend Zulhilmi Azri, when they were travelling to work in Alor Mengkudu from Kuala Kedah.
They were travelling through Jalan Langgar at about 10.15am.
It was his mother, Hashimah Mahmood, 49, that claimed that her son was shot by a police officer simply because they ran a red light.
“My son is now in the red zone of Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for a serious injury, and the doctor said surgery would be done tonight to remove the bullet.
“He is conscious and told me that he had asked his friend to stop, but he did not as he did not have a motorcycle licence,” the mother told reporters.
Malaysiakini reported her as saying that the police officer told her son to seek treatment in a clinic and avoid the hospital, which she found suspicious.
She also said the policeman left to file a police report on the incident without first helping her son who was bleeding at the scene.
“My family and I admit that my son was guilty of escaping arrest, possibly because his friend had no driver’s license.
“I want justice for my son who may be facing a lifelong disability,” she lamented.
According to Malay Mail, Kedah district police chief Datuk Mat Kasim Karim had confirmed the incident, adding that the policeman involved had not lodged any report.
“It’s possible that he had let out a shot to stop the motorcycle but the action was unwarranted.
“If policemen act against the law, victims could take civil action against the police force,” said the state police chief.
This is appalling! We hope the Kedah police department can get to the bottom of this quick.
