Putting the responsibility of raising a child on the in-law is a terrible thing to do as a father. Worse yet, this father even physically assaulted her grandmother-in-law just because she failed to attend to his crying baby.
According to Kosmo Online, the 69-year-old victim was assaulted by her grandson-in-law yesterday (Jul 15) at 6am. The assailant is a 24-year-old unemployed man who stayed together with the victim at the latter’s home in Batang Melaka.
Jasin OCPD Deputy Supt Arshad Abu said the victim had to go to the toilet as the 8-month-old baby girl started crying. When the assailant heard his daughter’s cries, he rained blows on the victim’s eyes mercilessly.
The victim passed out from the attack.
“This poor woman was beaten and berated with derogatory remarks.
“Soon after assaulting her, the suspect fled with his wife and child,” DSP Arshad was quoted as saying by The Star.
Not only looking after the baby girl, but the victim also supported the assailant and his wife − who is her granddaughter. Working as a school canteen cook, she supported them with her RM250 monthly salary.
The victim was sent to Melaka Hospital after being first admitted to Jasin Hospital.
She suffered severe bruises on both eyes and the eye specialist in the Melaka Hospital said that the 69-year-old is currently at the risk of going blind.
Police on the case were able to locate the on-the-run assailant. He was arrested on the same day at 11pm in Bachang.
DSP Arshad revealed that the man had two previous criminal records for drug abuse.
“He also tested positive for drugs when we screened him.”
The case is currently being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
If convicted, the offender could face imprisonment up to seven years and is also be liable to a fine.
