Being disrupted from your sleep at 6.30am is not a pleasant feeling but this man in Terengganu has taken it too far to shut the noise.
According to NST, a jobless man stabbed an iman after being wakened up by the noise coming from a nearby mosque.
Happened at 6.30am Sunday (May 12), the angry man walked 100-metre to Kampung Apal Mosque and stabbed Mohd Amin Md Nor, 37, on the left chest.
At that time, two other prayers were in the mosque. The victim was rushed to Hospital Besut. He sustained an injury that required seven stitches.
Berita Harian reported that Besut district police chief Supt Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi as saying that the suspect is a 23-year-old man. He was tested positive for methamphetamine and admitted to stabbing the victim.
“The suspect suddenly came from behind and stabbed the victim in the chest.
“The suspect admitted that he stabbed the imam because he was unhappy with the victim for using the loudspeaker,” the district police chief said.
Mohd Zamri said the suspect ran for it after the assault but was arrested by the police shortly after. The police also found the knife used for the stab.
Other than testing positive for drugs, the suspect also has records of violent cases involving injuring people and drug abuse.
As for the victim Mohd Amin, it was a dreary day for him as he just came back to Besut to make arrangement for his father who passed away on Friday (May 10). He is an iman at the Rantau Petronas Surau in Kerteh, Kemaman.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means. If convicted, the suspect would face imprisonment of no more than 10 years, or with whipping, or with any two of such punishments.
We wish Mohd Amin a speedy recovery and strength to pull through the hard time of his passing father and sustaining serious injury.
