Talking about the shock of a lifetime, we are all on the same boat with our fellow Malaysian netizens.
Two days ago, netizen @shahrirbahar1 posted a bizarre photo on Twitter which saw a township on top of a building.
“Good morning, Jakarta. What kind of person imagined building a residential compound atop a building?” wrote the netizen hailing from Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
The tweet had gone viral with over 26,000 retweets and 19,000 likes.
A close inspection, one could see there are tarmac roads, a tennis court, a swimming pool and a few dozens of townhouses on the large rooftop.
According to The Jakarta Post, the residential complex is real and it is called The Cosmo Park, located above Thamrin City Mall.
The houses are on the 10th floor of the building and it is only accessible for those who hold a Cosmo Tower access card.
Despite being a bizarre idea to build a township above a building, Senior Associate Director Colliers International Indonesia, Ferry Salanto, said this concept has actually been around for a long time, Dream Indonesia reported.
Ferry said that the Thamrin area is a strategic location, thus the price of land in this area is relatively high. Building an actual landed house in this area does not meet the Building Area Coefficient (KLB), which stated that the area should be used to build tall buildings.
Jualo.com, a property site, listed a 270 square metres penthouse costs RM1.9 million (or Rp 6.500.000.000).
While the rent for a 3+1 bedroom apartment next to the townhouses is RM10,978 per month (or USD 2650), as listed on Jakarta-Apartment.net.
Below the residential complex is Thamrin City Mall where it houses many Batik clothes and other Muslim wears shops.
Other than The Cosmo Park, Ferry said another residence that has the same concept is The Villas, located above Mall Of Indonesia.
Wow, it is truly eye-opening for us Malaysians.
