It’s official. Sungai Kandis by-election results are out and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has defended the constituency following Mat Shuhaimi tragically passing due to lymphatic cancer. He left a vacancy on July 2.
Pakatan Harapan candidate Zawawi Ahmad Mughni successfully led PKR to defeat Barisan Nasional (BN) with 15,427 votes, The Star reported.
That is about 38% or more votes than BN candidate Datuk Lokman Noor Adam who gathered 9,585 votes whilst independent candidate K. Murthy received 97 votes.
The daily reported it led to PKR winning the by-election with 5,842 reduced majority.
The “reduced majority” was due to the lower turnout. The constituency expected 50,800 electorates to vote but the turnout rate was only 49.4%. There were 173 spoilt votes inside the total of 110 ballot boxes.
DAP strongman Lim Kit Siang said over a statement that the results of the by-election today would answer many “important questions,” Malaysiakinireported.
Lim said, “The question is what percentage of PAS membership will blindly support such an Umno-PAS partnership to restore Najib Abdul Razak to the position of prime minister.”
