The wife of the former premier, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, is infamously accused of buying various luxurious items using sovereign fund from IMDB. Among them, the most notorious piece was the purchase of a “Pink Diamond”.
On Wednesday (Apr 10), she walked out from Kuala Lumpur Complex Court and told reporters that she would forgive her accusers for constantly spreading falsehood about her. But first, they must say sorry to the rakyat for accusing her of purchasing the RM60 million pink diamond.
According to The Star, Rosmah said the untrue allegation was spread out by certain “parties” to cast her husband out of the government.
“If people come to apologise to me, I will forgive them.
“But what is important is to apologise to the people,” she said outside the courthouse where some journalists were heard agreeing.
According to Malay Mail, Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah said during a Dewan Rakyat sitting on Monday (Apr 8) that there is no proof of the pink diamond was purchased in Malaysia although it was brought into the country.
Amiruddin added an anonymous jewellery agent revealed that the diamond was one of 40 over pieces of jewellery given to a wife of an important figure.
However, the agent declared that the pink diamond had left the country, suggesting that no sales were ever made.
Rosmah expressed her disappointment to those Malaysians who believed the lies and reacted rashly against her.
“People choose to listen to lies, to all the untrue stories that have been told that was smeared to me and my husband.
“All this is because you all chose to believe in lies, because lies are more interesting, more savoury, because even if you tell the truth the next day the person saying these lies will say the same thing,” she said to reporters surrounded her before she could get inside the car.
She said she will continue to support her husband despite the slanderous and defaming allegations cast upon him.
Earlier that day, she claimed trial for a third charge of graft regarding the solar hybrid rural school at the Sessions Court.
Despite the court dismissal, Rafizi Ramli still felt it does not mean that the gem was not purchased using money from 1MDB.
Rafizi who is known for being a strong critic against the scandal pointed out no one questioned whether the US$27 million diamond was really a gift to her, like what Najib argued, FMT reported.
He was referring to the infamous interview from Al-Jazeera with Najib last October. Yes, the one that Najib got so fed up and walked out~
In the award-winning interview, Datuk Seri Najib claimed that the pink diamond was a gift from an Emirati royal, Prince Sheikh Mansour.
“The issue is, who paid for it and whose money was used.
“Based on the filing by the US Department of Justice (DoJ), it is believed to have come from 1MDB funds,” he told the media at a public talk in Rantau, Negeri Sembilan.
The former Pandan MP also made a connection of the pink diamond issue to superyacht The Equanimity, stating that if anyone asked who owned the yacht, Jho Low’s name will not be mentioned in Dewan Rakyat.
“This is because the investigation showed that it was purchased by an offshore company linked to Jho Low”, he said.
