Some Europeans Went Crazy As Toblerone Chocs Get Halal Certified And This Isn’t the First Time

Chocolate should never be a subject of controversy. It is just a piece of sweet, innocent coco treat. But some people just cannot accept when they suddenly realized it is certified halal.

According to recent CNN news, some members of the Europeans in the “far right” are calling a mass boycott of Toblerone after discovering the company had certified its triangular chocolaty treat as halal in April 2018.

Germany’s nationalist AfD party had called the certification an act of “Islamization” in Europe and shockingly, people of the region bought into the notion and expressed their disgust over such “Islamization”. Hahah!

“I will never, EVER buy another Toblerone!!! #BOYCOTTTOBLERONE,” one Twitter user wrote.

“Too bad, I like to eat. But I don’t like Muslim food,” another said on Facebook, while a third announced: “Toblerone is now on my (black) list!”

Toblerone’s manufacturing factory in Bern, Switzerland attained the Halal certification in April but CNN wrote that nothing of its ingredients have changed after reaching out to the chocolate maker, Mondelēz.

“The certification did not result in any change to our beloved traditional Toblerone original recipe,” Mondelēz confirmed with CNN over an email.

“Due to the inherent nature of Toblerone chocolate its production process essentially meets the halal criteria anyway.”

However, not everyone has gone fanatic over the issue, claiming that most mass-produced foods are already halal-friendly and that Toblerone has always met the criteria anyway.

“Anyone who has the power and time to get upset about such nonsense must not be surprised by the (ridicule),” one said.

“Islamization does not take place — neither in Germany nor in Europe,” the AfD’s Jörg Meuthen wrote sarcastically on social media. “It is therefore certainly a pure coincidence that the depicted, known chocolate variety is now certified as ‘HALAL.’”

What’s up with the Islamic-phobic people there?!

Apparently, this is not the first time it happened. Just last year, Independent UK reported that Cadbury customers had gone furious after a viral picture showing a Cadbury employee holding a Halal certification. The viral tweet wrote: “Cadbury proudly displaying their latest new halal certificates, pass it on.”

Some Cadbury fans accused the brand of “Muslim appeasement” while others threatened to boycott it altogether.

In response, Cadbury had this to explain to the Islamic-phobic consumers:

“None of our UK products are halal certified and we have never made any changes to our chocolate to specifically make them halal.”

“They are just suitable for those following a halal diet in the same way that standard food such as bread or water.”

Yikes!

Speaking of Cadbury, Malaysia was once hit by a “Halal crisis” over the purple package chocolate brand. According to Huffington Post, Cadbury Malaysia pulled out its Dairy Milk hazelnut and Dairy Milk roasted almond bars from the shelf back in 2014 as they were found to have pig DNA.
