Red light, stops. We all know the maxim very well. Sadly, a motorcyclist lost his life when attempting to beat the red light yesterday.
Last night (Mar 31), a male motorcyclist ran the red light and crashed himself to death when he tried to avoid a car at Jalan Puteri, Puteri Wangsa in Johor Bahru.
According to Harian Metro, the incident happened when the 26-year-old victim was riding a Yamaha LC135 and crashed into a four-wheeled drive at 7.40pm.
Based on initial investigation, Johor Bahru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahurinain Jais said the Toyota Hilux driver was coming out from Taman Puteri Wangsa heading towards Taman Bestari Indah. The driver stopped at the Jalan Puteri traffic light when it was red.
“He resumed his driving when the traffic light turned green, wanting to make a right turn and the victim suddenly came crashing into the right-side frontal of his car.
“With the accident, the victim suffered a serious head injury and died on the site, but the Toyota Hilux driver was uninjured”, said the police chief.
He added the victim’s body will be taken to the Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) for a post-mortem.
Further investigation will be conducted under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1941 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
A one minute video has been uploaded on Facebook, showing how the victim ran over the red light and got himself hit by the Hilux.
