[Wednesday] Rosmah Arrested While Quizzed By MACC, to Be Charged Tomorrow

The Wednesday woes continue in former Prime Minister’ Datuk Sri Najib Razak’s family as his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, had been arrested today (Oct 3) when she was giving her statements to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

According to The Star, her lawyer said Rosmah was arrested at 3.20pm amidst interrogation at its headquarters here in Putrajaya.

The 66-year-old wife of a former prime minister would be brought to the KL sessions courts tomorrow to face charges under Anti-money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, said MACC deputy chief commissioner Azam Baki when contacted by Malaysiakini.

It’s reported that Rosmah arrived at MACC today at 10.42am today, clad in an all-green baju kurung and headscarf. After five hours in the building, she was arrested. She was accompanied by her lawyers Datuk K. Kumaraendran and Datuk Geethan Ram Vincent. The Attorney-General Chambers gave the green light to MACC before the anti-graft body made the arrest.

When Malaysiakini reached out to Najib for a response, he confirmed that his wife was indeed detained but he has yet to know the charges.

“Yes, she has been arrested. We have not yet been told of the charges. Her lawyers are still unable to gain access to their client as yet,” said the former premier.

Today marked Rosmah’s third visit to MACC. Last Wednesday (Sept 24), she was questioned for a whopping 13 hours straight. While on June 5, she was interrogated for five hours in relation to matters pertaining to SRC International, a former 1MDB subsidiary.

FeedMe Malaysia had repeatedly pointed out that Najib had faced all of his major predicaments on Wednesday. The first public 1MDB expose by The Wall Street Journal and Sarawak Report was a Wednesday in Malaysia. He was ousted from the federal government on a Wednesday during the 14th General Election. A week after, his house was raided by the police which again was a Wednesday which was also the first day of Ramadan.

In three of Najib’s arrests or case management, they all happened on a Wednesday. This Wednesday curse had spread to his wife as seen in the arrest today. The hump-day predicament narrative continues. Let’s see when the Wednesday-combo would be broken.
