Think of this as the McDonald’s equivalent of Hotpot. And finally, it is coming to Malaysia!
Hai Di Lao Huo Guo (海底捞火锅), which basically translates to “scooping in the bottom of the sea” hotpot, is opening in Sunway Pyramid tomorrow (Mar 27), according to Come On Let’s Travel Facebook page. Sunway Pyramid confirmed the news on its Facebook but merely mentioned that it will open at the end of March.
Hai Di Lao Huo Guo was founded in 1994 in Sichuan Province, China. Its success was so big, it eventually went public listed in the Hong Kong stocks in September 2018 with an $1 billion initial public offering (IPO).
The hotpot chain first ventured overseas to New York and Singapore in 2012. For the past six years, Malaysians who were dying to try the hotpot had to go to Singapore and queue for hours before they could taste its signature “Ma La” (spicy and numbing) soup.
Hai Di Lao Huo Guo is a regional sensation, so much so that it has become a must-visit when Malaysians visit Singapore. You may be familiar with those Instagram photos of Malaysian couples celebrate their anniversary there. Not to forget that free fruit platter or longevity buns will be served to those who are celebrating their birthday there which comes together with a birthday song performance.
The hotpot chain has over ten soup bases, such as chicken, mushroom, tomato, seafood and Ma La. The first Malaysian store will have two soups made exclusively for us: Laksa and peppered pig stomach soup.
One of the highlights is definitely when you order its homemade noodles as there would be a chef stretching your noodles beside your table. If you are not careful (or the chef), the noodle might hit you. 😝
Note that it is not a buffet steamboat restaurant but it has over 20 types of condiments and sauces at the self-served seasoning bar, which might confuse some as an all-you-can-eat experience.
While you are waiting to get seated, Hai Di Lao Huo Guo has free snacks, drinks and even manicure services! The steamboat chain is known for its exceptional customer service from the moment you step into the store.
The opening tomorrow is said to be a soft launch which its operation hour starts from 10am-10pm; the operation will be extended to 10am-3pm after the grand launch on April 1. It is located on the ground floor of Sunway Pyramid Hotel where Taste Enclave food court used to be located.
Customers can only start making reservations after its grand launch. Sunway Pyramid’s Hai Di Lao Huo Guo is reachable at +603- 5611 5188 / +603- 5612 5158.
The second store in Klang Valley will open in Pavilion KL, followed by the first in Penang in Gurney Paragon Mall.
You can watch videos of the chefs in Hai Di Lao Huo Guo preparing the homemade noodle on the next page.
