For the people who live for the weekend, looks like you have to put that on hold now. Unless you are willing to have your night out interrupted by police raids and worse still , spend a night in jail.
According to NGO Malaysian Islamic Consumers Association (PPIM), the raid was carried out under the Operasi Banteras Aktiviti Haram (OPS BAH), or Fight Illegal Activities Integrated Operation. Malaysia nightlife giant Zouk was swooped by the police, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Ministry, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the national anti drugs agency (AADK), and the Immigration Department of Malaysia.
Other than Zouk, located along Jalan Tun Razak, the ops also covered a string of other nightclubs and entertainment outlets in the entire city last Saturday night (April 21). The raiding party was made up of a 400-strong team which comprised 28 government agencies and 19 non-governmental organisations, Free Malaysia Today reported.
Chief coordinator of OPS BAH, Azman Mahmood, said that no outlets are exempted from the raids and dismissed claims that some establishments were granted immunity from prosecution.
“In the Federal Territories there are about 1,800 clubs which must be checked and we are going to all these clubs.
“If you have committed an offence, action will still be taken no matter what. There is no such thing as immunity,” said Azman after the operation in Zouk at 1am.
A total of 10 individuals were ordered to be present at the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department for investigation under the Syariah Criminal Offences Act while three were detained after being tested positive for methamphetamine. Thirty bottles of liquor were seized under Section 54(1) of the Excise At 1976, Bernama reported.
Well, at least if you are clean or not banned from drinking for religious reasons, you would be fine in such raid. It’s just that it would be a major mood killer.
The raid will be deployed from time to time to ensure that Kuala Lumpur is free from any negative defilements that could harm the country’s reputation, PPIM wrote in a press release. Azman Mahmood added that the team arrested a Chinese man known as “Tonto”.
“Before the raid, we arrested Tonto suspected to be a spy for this operation,” he said.
The raid was documented in a video and the post has gone viral ever since with over 2,700 shares. You may watch it here:

Sex Party in Thailand
On a separate report by Free Malaysia Today, several Malaysians were arrested for participating in a sex-romp party, aka wild orgy, in a hotel in South Pattaya, Thailand, on Saturday as well. Bangkok Post reported that the party cost 1,500 baht (RM190) per person and attendees could swap partners for sexual activities, a swingers’ party.
During the raid, 11 men and 14 women from Singapore, America, Canada, Germany, China, Thailand, Cambodia, Indian and Ukraine were arrested. They were detained while they were inside a ground floor room at Ban Tulip Hotel in the Phra Tamnak area. It’s reported that 25 people were caught with their pants down, literally, when police stormed in. The raid came after complaints from local residents which knew about the frequent sex romp.
If you are planning to have fun this weekend, make sure you know what you are in for!
